Book 'Em, Danno

Is this the new McGarrett?

Big News! According to today's Honolulu Advertiser, Hawaii Five-O is set to return on CBS.

Network executives were so enthralled with the recently completed pilot for a "Five-0" series remake that they gave the green light to the modern version of the beloved crime series, said Georja Skinner, administrator for the state's creative services division, which oversees the Hawai'i Film Office.

Filming is expected to begin in the Islands in July.

The characters we all loved will be back. McGarrett will be played by Alex O'Loughlin (above).

Scott Caan gets the part of Danno Williams.

Chin Ho Kelly will be played by "Lost" star, Daniel Dae Kim.

Kono Kalakaua will be played by Grace Park. It's not known if she will get a female first name. Maybe it will be Kona, which means "Lady."

I can't wait for this show to start. I just hope they keep the Ventures' theme song.

    Greetings from Falls County,
So who are they going to get to play Wo Fat?

I thought of you when I heard the series was being updated and will be on TV in the near future.

Obviously they better keep the theme--one of the coolest themes ever.

I am not sure if I like that it is coming back or not. The original was very cool. The potential here is that they could easily ruin it.

Well, as all good soundtrack nerds will tell you, it wasn't the Ventures' recording they used, but an orchestra put together by composer Morton Stevens that recorded the version used on the original series. See Lee Goldberg's blog or the YT clips he gathered for variations through the years, including Sammy Davis singing a version with lyrics.

I remain amused at the notion of the not-tiny but still diminuitive Park as Kono, who mostly got to be the guy first through the door, or the wall, in the early years of the series. I guess since she's the badass in the opening montage, she'll be kicking doors as well as ass.

Get your resume together to try out for Kimo, Mark...the old Bill Smith role in the last season.
